What You Need To Know
Modeling can be broke into four basic variations. They are the Hobby Model, the Amateur Model, the Semi-Pro Model, and the Professional Model.
Hobby Models enjoy getting in front of a camera and having their pictures taken. These are usually individuals that pose for their friends and family. They do it for fun, with no expectation of being reimbursed for their time.
Amateur Models include individuals that are just getting started in the professional modeling field. These models tend to take part in a number of TFP (Time for Photo) style photo shoots. This helps them build a working portfolio and gain experience. These models can receive paid assignments, however they tend to be low in value.
Semi-Pro Models usually take on the secondary markets such as catalogs, themed, or local advertisements. Models can make a decent living at this level of modeling. It allows them a chance to build a reputation for themselves and gain additional experience.
Finally there is the Professional Model. Many of these models take part in high profile assignments. These include fashion, high fashion, national assignments, and international modeling assignments. These individuals have worked hard to build a professional reputation and portfolio of work that inspires clients to seek them out.
No matter what level of modeling you wish to take on, you will have the opportunity to working in a variety of different genres within the modeling industry. These range from beauty and fashion assignments to the advertising industry, with many genres in-between.
What You Need To Ask Yourself
The question is no longer about weather your looks fit into the perfect mold of the model. Now the question is weather you have the character to be a model. So ask yourself the following questions:
1.) Am I willing to finish what I start?
2.) Am I willing to learn new things without complaint and with the knowledge that I will not get it right the first time, but I will succeed with practice? This includes learning to show emotions on demand and taking on the role of a variety of different characters.
3.) Can I be a positive and patient person even when those around me are not?
4.) Can I keep my professional reputation clean and stay out of other peoples drama?
5.) Can I take rejection with out personalizing it?
6.) Am I able to stay professional, honest, and trustworthy?
7.) Am I willing to invest my time and energy into modeling?
8.) Do I have self-confidence? If I am struggling with it, can I overcome my self-doubt?
9.) Can I be open-minded and willing to push my comfort zones?
10.) Can I treat each assignment as if it is the most important assignment I have worked on, giving everything I have to make it a success?
